Matthew 21:1-11 - The Triumphal Entry

Matthew 21:1-11

1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, and had come to Bethphage, to the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them: Go into the village opposite to you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them to me. 3 And if any one say any thing to you, you shall reply: The Lord has need of them: and he will immediately send them.

4 All this was done, that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5 Say you to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king comes to you, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

6 And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them; 7 and brought the ass and the colt, and put their mantles on them, and caused him to sit upon them. 8 And a very great multitude spread their mantles in the road: and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the road. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed after, cried, saying: Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

10 And when he entered Jerusalem, all the city was moved, and said: Who is this? 11 And the multitude said: This is Jesus the prophet, that is from Nazareth of Galilee.

Mark 11:1-11

1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, as far as Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 2 and said to them: Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied, on which no man ever sat. Loose him and bring him. 3 And if any say to you: "Why are you doing this? say that the Lord has need of him; and he will immediately send him hither.

4 And they went and found the colt tied near the door without, in the street. And they loosed him. 5 And some of those who were standing there, said to them: Why are you loosing the colt? 6 And they said to them as Jesus had commanded; and they gave them permission. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and put their mantles upon him, and he sat on him.

8 And many spread their mantles in the road, and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the road. 9 And those who went before, and those who followed after, cried, saying: Hosanna. Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our Father David. Hosanna in the highest.

11 And Jesus entered Jerusalem, and went into the temple; and when he had looked around on all things, the hour being now late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

Luke 19:28-40

28 And when he had said these things, he went before, going up to Jerusalem. 29 And it came to pass, that, when he came near to Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 30 saying: Go into the opposite village, in which, when you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no man ever sat. Loose him, and bring him. 31 And if any one ask you why you loose him, thus shall you say to him: The Lord has need of him.

32 And those who were sent, went, and found as he had said to them. 33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners of him said to them: Why do you loose the colt?

34 They replied: The Lord has need of him. 35 And they brought him to Jesus, and threw their mantles upon the colt, and set Jesus on him. 36 And as he was going on, they spread their mantles in the road. 37 And when he was now near the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and to praise God, with a loud voice, for all the mighty deeds which they had seen,

38 saying: Blessed is the king that comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude, said to him: Teacher, rebuke your disciples.

40 And he answered, and said to them: I say to you, that if these had been silent, the stones would have cried out.

John 12:12-19

12 On the next day, a great multitude that had come to the feast, having heard that Jesus was coming into Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm-trees, and went out to meet him, and cried: Hosanna, blessed is the king of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord.

14 And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat upon him, as it is written: 15 Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king comes, sitting on the colt of an ass.

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him. 17 The multitude therefore that was with him, testified that he had called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead. 18 For this reason, also, the multitude met him, be cause they had heard that he had done this sign.

19 Then the Pharisees said among themselves: You see that you gain nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.
