Mashiach, the anointed, is an official title in the O.T. of those who were to rule for God. 1Sa 12:3,5; 26:9,11,16; 2Ch 6:42; Isa 45:1. In the N.T. the title is restricted to the Lord Jesus

Jehovah, they contending against him, shall be broken; in the heavens he will break them in pieces: Jehovah will judge the ends of the earth, and he will give strength to his king, and he will lift up the horn of his Messiah.

He first finds his own brother Simon, and says to him, We have found Messias, which is, being interpreted, Christ.
The woman says to him, I know that Messias comes, called Christ: when he should come, he will announce all things to us.
