frozen rain-drops; one of the plagues of Egypt (Ex 9:23). It is mentioned by Haggai as a divine judgment (Hag 2:17). A hail-storm destroyed the army of the Amorites when they fought against Joshua (Jos 10:11). Ezekiel represents the wall daubed with untempered mortar as destroyed by great hail-stones (Eze 13:11). And Moses stretched out his staff to the heavens, and Yahweh gave thunder and hail, and fire went [to the] earth, and Yahweh caused hail to rain on the land of Egypt.
And as they were fleeing from Israel, [they were] on the slope of Beth-horon, and Yahweh threw huge stones from the heavens on them as far as Azekah; and more died by the hail stones than those whom the {Israelites} killed by the sword.
Say to [those] covering [it] [with] whitewash that it will fall; there will be {a torrent of rain}, and I will give stones of hail; they will fall! And a {windstorm} will burst forth!

And large hailstones, weighing about a hundred pounds, came down from the sky upon people, and the people blasphemed God because of the plague of hail, because the plague of it was very great.

Particles of ice falling from the clouds. Though hail is usually formed by natural causes not yet perhaps well understood, it is often referred to in scripture as one of the judgements of God. It formed one of the plagues in Egypt. Ex 9:18-34; Ps 78:47-48; 105:32; and is at times connected with fire or lightning. God smote the Amalekites by 'great stones' from heaven. Jos 10:11. The hail is called upon to praise Jehovah, because it fulfils His word. Ps 148:8; Isa 28:2,17; Hag 2:17. It will also form a notable part of the judgements of God in His future dealings with this guilty world. Re 8:7; 11:19; 16:21.

Look, about [this] time tomorrow, I [am] going to cause very severe hail to rain, the like of which has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. And now send [word]; bring into safety your livestock and all that [belongs] to you in the field.
