Reference: Ithra
Fausets
Father of Amasa by Abigail, David's sister (2Sa 17:25; 1Ch 2:17). (See AMASA; ABIGAIL.) "An Ishmaelite" is the true reading; for why state that he was an "Israelite"? That he was an Ishmaelite would be something exceptional, and fitly mentioned in the genealogy. Jether or Ithra had "gone in to," i.e. seduced, Abigail, daughter of Nahash and sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother Absalom, probably during the sojourn of David's family with the king of Moab (1Sa 22:3-4). (See ABSALOM.)

Hastings
The father of Amasa, and husband of Abigail, David's sister. He is described as an Israelite in 2Sa 17:25, but the better reading is 'Jether the Ishmaelite' (1Ch 2:17).
