John, The First Epistle General of.
There can be no doubt that the apostle John was the author of this epistle. It was probably written from Ephesus, and most likely at the close of the first century. In the introduction, ch.
the apostle states the purpose of his epistle: it is to declare the word of life to those whom he is addressing, in order that he and they might be united in true communion with each other, and with God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. His lesson throughout is that the means of union with God are, on the part of Christ, his atoning blood, ch.

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of Life, (for the Life was revealed, and we have seen it and bear witness, and show to you the everlasting Life, who was with the Father and was revealed to us), read more. that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And you know that He was revealed that He might take away our sins, and in Him is no sin.
We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love his brother abides in death.
And this is His commandment, that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the antichrist you heard is coming, and even now is already in the world.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation concerning our sins.
And we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. And everyone who loves Him who begets also loves him who has been born of Him.
Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is He who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water only, but by the water and blood. And the Spirit is He who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth.
