[To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] Blessed is he that considers the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and you will not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Should not you also have had compassion on your fellow servant, even as I had pity on you?

compassion for the miserable. Its object is misery. By the atoning sacrifice of Christ a way is open for the exercise of mercy towards the sons of men, in harmony with the demands of truth and righteousness (Ge 19:19; Ex 20:6; 34:6-7; Ps 85:10; 86:15-16). In Christ mercy and truth meet together. Mercy is also a Christian grace (Mt 5:7; 18:33-35).
