(La 5:3), i.e., desolate and without protectors. The word occurs only here. In Joh 14:18 the word there rendered "comfortless" (R.V., "desolate;" marg., "orphans") properly means "orphans." The same Greek word is rendered "fatherless" in Jas 1:27.
We have become orphans without a father, Our mothers are like widows.
"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
