Used in scripture for any one that had the oversight or leadership of others. Ge 39:4-5, etc. In the A.V. it is once the translation of ?????????, Ac 20:28, which is elsewhere translated BISHOP, q.v.
So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge. It came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house and over all that he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house on account of Joseph; thus the LORD'S blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field.
"Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
