Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has appointed you [as] overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he obtained through the blood of his own [Son].
shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not by compulsion but willingly, in accordance with God, and not greedily but eagerly,
Obey your leaders and submit [to them], for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not [with] groaning, for this [would be] unprofitable for you.
Now I exhort you, brothers, to look out for those who cause dissensions and temptations contrary to the teaching which you learned, and stay away from them.
Therefore the overseer must be irreproachable, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, skillful in teaching,
and [the things] which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these [things] to faithful people who will be competent to teach others also.
Fix [your] attention on yourself and on your teaching. Continue in them, for [by] doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and rule over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them beyond all measure in love, because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
Therefore welcome him in the Lord with all joy, and consider such [people] highly honored,
The elders who lead well must be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor by speaking and teaching.
Now I urge you, brothers--you know about the household of Stephanas, that they are the first fruits of Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the ministry for the saints-- that you also be subject to such people, and to all those who work together and labor.
In the [same] way also the Lord ordered those who proclaim the gospel to live from the gospel.
And remain in the same house, eating and drinking {whatever they provide}, for the worker [is] worthy of his pay. Do not move from house to house.
Now the one who is taught the word must share in all good [things] with the one who teaches.
For the scripture says, "You must not muzzle an ox [while it] is threshing," and "The worker [is] worthy of his wages."
Now I exhort you, brothers, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to contend along with me in your prayers on my behalf to God,
and for me, that a word may be given to me at the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,
for I know that this will turn out to me for deliverance through your prayer and the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
Pray for us, for we are convinced that we have a good conscience, [and] want to conduct ourselves commendably in every [way].
Therefore welcome him in the Lord with all joy, and consider such [people] highly honored, because on account of the work of Christ he came near to the point of death, risking his life in order that {he might make up for your inability to serve me}.
And you did not despise or disdain [what was] a trial for you in my flesh, but you welcomed me like an angel of God, like Christ Jesus.
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you; {considering the outcome of their way of life}, imitate their faith.
And tell Archippus, "Direct your attention to the ministry that you received in the Lord, in order that you may complete it."
but having different gifts according to the grace given to us: if [it is] prophecy, according to the proportion of [his] faith; if [it is] service, by service; if [it is] one who teaches, by teaching; if [it is] one who exhorts, by exhortation; one who gives, with sincerity; one who leads, with diligence; one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, and there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord, and there are varieties of activities, but the same God, who works all [things] in all [people].read more.
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for what is beneficial [to all]. For to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another {miraculous powers}, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another interpretation of tongues. But in all these [things] one and the same Spirit is at work, distributing to each one individually just as he wishes.
Now to each one of us was given this grace, according to the measure of Christ's gift.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not let your freedom [become] an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
being devoted to one another in brotherly love, esteeming one another [more highly] in honor,
Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another, for the one who loves someone else has fulfilled the law.
Therefore, as [the] chosen of God, holy and [dearly] loved, put on affection, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, putting up with one another and forgiving one another. If anyone should have a complaint against anyone, just as also the Lord forgave you, thus also you [do the same]. And to all these [things] [add] love, which is [the] bond of perfection.
and [may] the Lord [cause] you to increase and to abound in love for one another and for all, just as also we [do] for you,
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another fervently from the heart,
And this is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as {he commanded us}.
with all humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love,
We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
In the same way, younger men, be subject to the elders, and all [of you] clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
And we urge you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, console the discouraged, help the sick, be patient toward all [people].
Brothers, do not complain against one another, in order that you may not be judged. Behold, the judge stands before the doors!
Therefore accept one another, just as Christ also has accepted you, to the glory of God.
