This is a Greek word, though sometimes used by English writers. It is translated 'Comforter,' referring to the Holy Spirit, in Joh 14:16,26; 15:26; 16:7; and 'Advocate,' referring to the Lord Jesus, in 1Jo 2:1. See ADVOCATE.

and I will pray the father: and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you ever,

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye should sin not: if, though, any man sin, yet we have an Advocate with the father, even Jesus Christ, which is righteous.
