This is a record of the life of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Jacob fathered Joseph, the husband of Mary, who was the mother of Jesus, who is called the Messiah.
So all the generations from Abraham to David totaled fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon totaled fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah there were fourteen generations.

Then the crowd answered him, "We have learned from the Law that the Messiah remains forever. So how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"
And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent Jesus the Messiah.
