Then Peter came to him and said, "Master, how many times am I to forgive my brother when he wrongs me? Seven times over?"
Jesus said to him, "Not seven times over, I tell you, but seventy-seven times over!
For this reason the kingdom of heaven is like a king, who went over his accounts with his servants.
So, [upon becoming husband and wife] they no longer function [entirely] as two persons, but [as] one body. Therefore, those whom God [so] joins together [in the marriage bond], no person must [ever] separate."
'And I say to you, that, whoever may put away his wife, if not for whoredom, and may marry another, doth commit adultery; and he who did marry her that hath been put away, doth commit adultery.'
For there are eunuchs [i.e., men who do not have normal sexual activity] who are born that way; then there are eunuchs who were made that way by undergoing a surgical operation; then there are [also] eunuchs who purposely chose to avoid normal sexual activity for the sake of [ministering in] the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept such an arrangement [i.e., of not marrying], should do so."
Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray over them. The disciples checked the people,
He said to him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "'You shall not murder.' 'You shall not commit adultery.' 'You shall not steal.' 'You shall not offer false testimony.'
And whoever has forsaken houses, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children or lands, for my sake, shall receive many times as much and shall have as his inheritance the Life of the Ages.
[Then] he went out again about noon and again at three o'clock in the afternoon and made the same offer.
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
but not so shall it be among you, but whoever may will among you to become great, let him be your ministrant;
and whoever may will among you to be first, let him be your servant;
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
and brought the ass and the colt, and threw their clothes over them, and set Him upon them.
When he entered Jerusalem the whole city was in excitement over him. "Who is this?" they said,
And Jesus entered the temple [grounds] and drove out [with force] all who were buying and selling [birds and animals for sacrifice] in the temple area, and He turned over the tables of the moneychangers [who made a profit exchanging foreign money for temple coinage] and the chairs of those who were selling doves [for sacrifice].
But when the leading priests and the experts in the law of Moses saw the wonderful things [i.e., miracles] He was performing and [heard] the children shouting in the Temple, "Hosanna to the son of David," [See note at verse 9], they were filled with anger [i.e., over the acclaim being given to Jesus].
Jesus told them, "Yes! Haven't you ever read, "From the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have created praise'?" Then he left them and went out of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.
And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
"I tell you," replied Jesus, "if you have faith, without ever a doubt, you will do what not only what has been done to the fig tree, but, even if you should say to this hill 'Be lifted up and hurled into the sea!' it would be done.
All that ever you ask in prayer you shall have, if you believe."
And when he had come into the Temple, the chief priests and those in authority over the people came to him while he was teaching, and said, By what authority do you do these things? and who gave you this authority?
But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir [to the vineyard]. Come on, let us kill him so we can take over his inheritance.'
Jesus [then] said to the leading priests and elders of the Jewish people, "Did you not ever read in the Scriptures [Psa. 118:22-23], 'The building block rejected by the builders is the same one that was made the principal stone by which the entire building was aligned. This was planned by the Lord and is a marvelous thing to us'?
And not one could answer Him a word, and from that day on no one ever dared to ask Him any more questions.
"Whoever is great among you shall be your minister;
And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Woe to you, blind guides, who are saying, Whoever may swear by the sanctuary, it is nothing, but whoever may swear by the gold of the sanctuary -- is debtor!
And, whoever may swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever may swear by the gift that is upon it -- is debtor!
And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and the one who dwells in it.
You blind guides, who take out a fly from your drink, but make no trouble over a camel.
And then many people will fall away [from God] and they will turn one another over [i.e., to the authorities for punishment], and they will hate one another.
But whoever bears up to the end will be saved.
This gospel of the Reign shall be preached all over the wide world as a testimony to all the Gentiles, and then the end will come.
'Whenever, therefore, ye may see the abomination of the desolation, that was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (whoever is reading let him observe)
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Two women will be grinding grain at a millstone [Note: This was a hand-operated device where two persons sat across from each other and rotated a circular stone over kernels of grain]; one will be taken, while the other one will be left.
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
And [that master] will whip him to shreds and will turn him over to suffer the same fate as hypocrites do. That fate will involve crying and excruciating pain."
For [it is] like a man going on a journey. He summoned his own slaves and handed over his property to them.
Now after a long time the master of these servants returned [from his trip] and proceeded to go over his accounts with each of them.
And the one who had received the five talents came up [and] brought five more talents, saying, 'Master, you handed over to me five talents. See, I have gained five more talents!'
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
And the one [who had] the two talents also came up [and] said, 'Master, you handed over to me two talents. See, I have gained two talents more!'
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
"Then the King will say to those at His right, "'Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world.
Then the upright will answer, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and give you something to eat, or thirsty, and give you something to drink?
When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you to our homes, or needing clothes, and put them on you?
When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and come to see you?'
They will reply, 'Lord, when did we [ever] see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or inadequately dressed, or sick, or in prison, and not provide for your needs?'
"You know that after two days the Passover takes place, and the Son of Man will be handed over in order to be crucified."
a woman came to Him with a jar of very costly, sweet-scented ointment, which she poured over His head as He reclined at table.
And Jesus having known, said to them, Why offer ye toils to the woman? for a good work has she worked upon me.
For the poor you have ever with you, but me you have not for ever.
In pouring this ointment over me, her object was to prepare me for burial.
I tell you, wherever this good news is preached all over the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."
and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Jesus over to you?” And they weighed out
So, from then on Judas looked for a [good] opportunity to turn Jesus over [to the Jewish leaders].
He answered, "Go into the city [i.e., Jerusalem] to a certain man and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is near [i.e., to be turned over to the Jewish leaders]; I plan to observe the Passover Festival at your house with my disciples.'"
As they were eating, He said, "Truly I tell you, one of you will turn me over [to the Jewish leaders]."
He answered, "The one who dipped his hand with me into the [sauce] bowl is the one who will turn me over [to the Jewish leaders].
The Son of man is going [to die], but it is too bad for that person through whom the Son of man is turned over [to the Jewish leaders]! It would be better for that man if he had not been born."
Then Jesus said to them, "You will all be disconcerted over me to-night, for it is written, I will strike at the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
Peter answered, "Supposing they are all disconcerted over you, I will not be disconcerted."
Then Jesus came with them to a place called
Then He came to His disciples and said to them, "Go ahead and sleep now, and get your rest. See, the time is near and the Son of man is [about to be] turned over into the hands of sinners.
Get up, let us be going. Look, the one who will turn me over [to the Jewish leaders] is nearby."
And while he was still talking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a band armed with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and those in authority over the people.
Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him."
What! do you think I cannot appeal to my Father to furnish me at this moment with over twelve legions of angels?
And those who had made Jesus prisoner took him away to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and those in authority over the people had come together.
But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
Jesus however remained silent. Again the High Priest addressed Him. "In the name of the ever-living God," he said, "I now put you on your oath. Tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."
Peter meanwhile was sitting outside in the court of the palace, when one of the maidservants came over to him and said, "You too were with Jesus the Galilaean."
so they bound Him, and led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate the governor [of Judea, who had the authority to condemn prisoners to death].
saying, "I have sinned by delivering up an innocent man to die." But they replied, "What is that to us? It is your affair!"
For this reason that piece of ground has ever since been called the Field of Blood.
For Pilate knew that it was because of jealousy that the chief priests and elders had handed Jesus over to him.
Then while he was seated in Pilate's courtroom of justice, Pilate's wife sent [word] to him, saying, "You should have nothing to do with that innocent man. For I was very troubled in a dream over him today." [Note: That is, she was troubled over a dream she had before waking up that morning].
And the governor said, What evil then has he done? But they cried more than ever, saying, Let him be crucified.
Now when Pilate saw that instead of him doing any good a riot was rising, he took some water and washed his hands in presence of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this good man's blood. It is your affair!"
Then he released Barabbas for them, but [after] he had Jesus flogged, he handed [him] over so that he could be crucified.
And having crucified him, they divided his garments, casting a lot, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the prophet, 'They divided my garments to themselves, and over my vesture they cast a lot;'
And sitting down, they kept guard over him there.
And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
