These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their nations.

All their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burnt with fire.

The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not come in here." Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the City of David.

David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it the City of David.

Jehoshaphat grew great exceedingly; and he built in Judah fortresses and cities of store.

Moreover he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and in the forests he built fortresses and towers.

Some shouted one thing, and some another, among the crowd. When he could not find out the truth because of the noise, he commanded him to be brought into the barracks.

As Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he asked the commanding officer, "May I speak something to you?" He said, "Do you know Greek?

When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the barracks.

But Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.

But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.


The king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, "You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will repel you"; thinking, "David can't come in here."

David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there. The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not come in here." David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it the City of David. He built the city all around, from the Millo even around; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

Woe to Ariel. Ariel, the city where David encamped. Add year to year; let the feasts come around;

David made him houses in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.

It was told king David, saying, "The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that pertains to him, because of the ark of God." David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom into the City of David with joy.

It happened, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the City of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.
