These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns and by their palaces; twelve princes according to their families.

And they burnt all their cities in which they dwelt and all their palaces with fire.

And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not enter here. Nevertheless, David took the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David.

And David dwelt in the fortress; therefore, they called it the city of David.

And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles and cities of store.

Moreover, he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude; and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the fortress.

And as Paul was to be led into the fortress, he said unto the tribunal, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?

And when there arose a great dissension, the tribunal, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and to take him by force from among them and to bring him into the fortress.

And when Paul's sister's son heard of their ambush, he went and entered into the fortress and told Paul.

On the next day they left the horsemen to go with him and returned to the fortress,


And David dwelt in the fortress; therefore, they called it the city of David.

they feared greatly because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

And Joab fought against Rabbah, of the sons of Ammon, and took the royal city.

And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let me be given a place in one of the cities of the land that I may dwell there, for why should thy slave dwell in the royal city with thee?


Then the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, who dwelt in the land, who spoke unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in here, thinking, David cannot come in here.

Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, for there the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of that land. And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not enter here. Nevertheless, David took the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David. And David said, Whoever smites the Jebusites first shall be head and prince. So Joab, the son of Zeruiah, went up first and was made the head. read more.

Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye one year to another; the lambs shall cease.

Therefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house. So David dwelt in the fortress and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.


And David made houses for himself in the city of David and prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not enter here. Nevertheless, David took the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David.

And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.

So David dwelt in the fortress and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the families of the sons of Israel, unto King Solomon in Jerusalem that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.

And it was told King David, saying, The LORD has blessed the house of Obededom and all that pertains unto him because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw King David dancing and playing, and she despised him in her heart.
