And he gathered together all the rulers of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward. And their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of LORD. And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. So they and their sons had the oversight of the gates of the house of LORD, even the house of the tent, by wards. On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south. And their brothers, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them; for the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the chambers and over the treasuries in the house of God.
