Then indeed those having been dispersed abroad on account of the persecution prevailing over Stephen came through even to Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews only. And all sitting in the council, having fixed their eyes on him, saw his face as the face of an angel.

And crying out with a loud voice, they stopped their ears, and unanimously rushed on him, and casting him out from the city, they began to stone him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man, called Saul: and continued to stone Stephen, calling upon the Lord, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
