About this time went one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, to the chief priests, and said, What will ye give me, and I will deliver Him to you? and they promised him thirty pieces of silver: and from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.
Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, when he saw that He was condemned, being struck with remorse, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, I have sinned, for I have betrayed innocent blood: but they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, in order to betray Him unto them. And they were glad, when they heard it, and engaged to give him money. And he sought to betray Him at a proper season.
And while He was yet speaking, behold, Judas one of the twelve came, and with him a great number, with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people: (now he that betrayed Him, had given them a signal, saying, The man whom I shall kiss is He, lay hold of Him:) and going directly up to Jesus, he said, Hail master, and kissed Him. read more.

Wherefore it is necessary that one of these men, who have been conversant with us all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and out among us, from the baptism of John, till the day that He was taken up from us, should be joined with us as a witness of his resurrection. And they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all, shew us, which of these two Thou hast chosen, to take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas is fallen by his transgression, that he might go to his own place.
