Thematic Bible: Called husbandmen
Thematic Bible
Agriculture » General references to » Called husbandmen
Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant and farm a vineyard.
Judah and all its towns will live together in the land, along with farmers and those who follow the flock.
I'll smash the shepherd and his flock with you. I'll smash the farmer and his team of oxen with you. I'll smash governors and officials with you.
Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of the Heavenly Armies, the Lord, says: "There will be dirges in all of the streets; and in all of the highways they will cry out in anguish. They will call the farmer to mourning and those who lament to grieve.
"He will say, "I am no mere prophet. A servant of mankind am I, because a man dedicated to this have I been from my youth.'
"Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a wall around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went abroad.
At the right time, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect from them a share of the produce from the vineyard.
He will come and destroy those farmers and give the vineyard to others." Those who heard him said, "That must never happen!"
Furthermore, it is the hard working farmer who should have the first share of the crops.
So be patient, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious crop from his land, being patient with it until it receives the fall and the spring rains.
