David went to the town of Mahanaim. Shobi son of Nahash came from Rabbah in Ammon, Machir son of Ammiel came from Lo-Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite came from Rogelim.
The anger of Jehovah burned against Israel. So he allowed the Philistines and the Ammonites to conquer them. They afflicted and oppressed the sons of Israel. For eighteen years they lived in Amorite country east of the Jordan River in Gilead. The Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim. The children of Israel cried out to Jehovah: We sinned against you. We left our God and served the Baals. Jehovah answered: Did I free you from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, and the Philistines? Did I save you from the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites? They oppressed you and you cried out to me. You still left me and worshiped other gods. I am not going to rescue you again. Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen! Let them save you in your time of trouble. But the people of Israel said to Jehovah: We have sinned. Do to us what seems best to you, only please, save us today! So they removed the foreign gods and worshiped Jehovah. He could bear the distress of Israel no longer. Then the Ammonite army prepared camped in Gilead. They prepared for battle. The people of Israel gathered and camped at Mizpah in Gilead. There the people and the leaders of Gilead asked one another: Who is the man to lead the fight against the Ammonites? Whoever does will be the leader of everyone in Gilead.

Jephthah crossed the river to fight the Ammonites, and Jehovah gave him victory. He struck at them from Aroer to the area around Minnith, twenty cities in all, and as far as Abel Keramim. It was a great slaughter. The Ammonites were defeated by Israel.
The men of Ephraim were ready for battle. They crossed the Jordan River to Zaphon and said to Jephthah: Why did you cross the border to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We are going to burn the house down over your head! Jephthah replied: My people and I had a great struggle with the Ammonites. I called you, but you would not rescue me from them. When I realized you were not going to, I risked my life and crossed the border to fight them. Jehovah gave me victory over them. Why are you coming to fight me now?
These nation included: Edom, Moab, Ammon, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the goods taken from Zobah's King Hadadezer, son of Rehob.
In the spring, at the time of the year when kings usually go to war, David sent out Joab with his officers and the Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged the city of Rabbah. David stayed in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Joab fought against the Ammonite city of Rabbah and captured its royal fortress. He sent messengers to tell David: I fought against Rabbah and captured the fortress guarding its water supply. Assemble the rest of the troops. Surround the city and capture it. The crown was made of seventy-five pounds of gold. There was a valuable jewel on it. David put the jewel on his own crown. He also carried off everything else of value. David made the people of Rabbah tear down the city walls with iron picks and axes. He also put them to work making bricks. He did the same thing with all the other Ammonite cities. David went back to Jerusalem. The people of Israel returned to their homes.

King David dedicated all the articles of gold, silver, and bronze to Jehovah, along with the silver and gold he had taken from other nations-from Edom, Moab, Ammon, the Philistines, and Amalek.

Joab defeated Rabbah and tore it down. David took the gold crown from the head of Rabbah's king. It was placed on David's head. The crown was found to weigh seventy-five pounds, and in it was a precious stone. David also took a lot of goods from the city. He took the troops who were there and put them to work with saws, hoes, and axes. He did the same to all the Ammonite cities. After that David and all the troops returned to Jerusalem.
God helped him when he attacked the Philistines, the Arabs who lived in Gur Baal, and the Meunites. The Ammonites paid taxes to Uzziah. His fame spread to the border of Egypt because he became very powerful.

The Canaanite king of Arad in the southern part of Canaan heard that the Israelites were coming by way of Atharim. So he attacked them and captured some of them. Then the Israelites made a vow to Jehovah: If you will let us conquer these people, we will unconditionally dedicate them and their cities to you and will destroy them. Jehovah heard them and helped them conquer the Canaanites. The Israelites completely destroyed them and their cities, and named the place Hormah.
Jabin king of Hazor heard about this. So he sent a message to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, and to the kings north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west, and to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh. read more.

Jehovah said to Joshua: Do not be afraid because of them! About this time tomorrow I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You must hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. So Joshua and all the people of war with him came up against them. Suddenly they attacked them by the waters of Merom. Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, who killed them. They chased them unto great Zidon, and to Misrephoth-maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they killed them. They did not leave any survivor remain. Joshua did to them what Jehovah told him to do. He hamstrung their horses, and burned their chariots with fire. Joshua then turned back, and captured Hazor. He killed the king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all these kingdoms. They killed all the people there with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. None were left alive. He burned Hazor with fire. Joshua took all the cities and all the kings and struck them with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. Just as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded. Israel did not burn the cities that stood on their own mounds with the exception of Hazor, which Joshua burned. Israel took all the spoil of these cities including the cattle. They killed every man with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them all. None were left alive. Jehovah commanded Moses his servant and so Moses commands Joshua and Joshua complied. He left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses. Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same.

Now Deborah, the wife of Lappidoth, was a prophet, and she was serving as a judge for the Israelites at that time. She held court under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim. The children of Israel came to her for judgment. She sent for Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said to him: Has Jehovah the God of Israel commanded, saying: 'Go and deploy troops at mount Tabor. And I will lure Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.' Barak said to her: If you will go with me, then I will go. If you will not go with me I will not go. She said: I will surely go with you. Never the less there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking. Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent at the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh. They showed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone to mount Tabor. Sisera gathered together all his nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the nations to the Kishon River. Deborah said to Barak: Get up, for this is the day in which Jehovah has delivered Sisera into your hand. Jehovah has gone out before you. So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him. Jehovah routed Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak. Sisera dismounted his chariot, and fled away on his feet. But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the army to Harosheth-Hagoyim. All of Sisera's army fell by the edge of the sword. Not one person was left. Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite. There was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him: Come my lord, come right in. Do not be afraid. When he came in to her tent, she covered him with a mantle. He said to her: Please give me a little water to drink for I am thirsty. She opened a jug of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him. Again he said: Stand at the door of the tent. When any man comes to inquire and asks: 'Is there a man here?' Say: No.' Then Jael Heber's wife picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went to him while he was fast asleep and drove the peg into his temple and it went down into the ground. He was fast asleep and weary. So he died. Barak pursued Sisera and Jael came out to meet him. She said to him: Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek. He went to her tend and saw Sisera lay dead with the peg in his temple. So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel. The children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
