I devoted myself to study and explored wisdom concerning all that is done under the heavens. It is a grievous task God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes)
Let my cry come before you, O Jehovah. Give me understanding according to your word.
Search for wisdom as if it were silver. Hunt for it as if it were hidden treasure!
I went again in search of wisdom and of foolish ways. What can the man do that comes after the king? Only what he has already done.
I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom. I looked for the explanation, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness.
