Do you not know that all the runners in a stadium compete, but only one receives the prize? So run to win.
You were running well; who prevented you from obeying the truth?
by holding on to the word of life so that on the day of Christ I will have a reason to boast that I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Like a bridegroom it emerges from its chamber; like a strong man it enjoys running its course.
Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge -- for time and chance may overcome them all.
