And God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make an altar to the God who appeared to you when you fled from before Esau your brother."
And he built an altar there and called the place El-Bethel, for there God had appeared to him when he fled before his brother.
And behold, Yahweh [was] standing beside him, and he said, "I [am] Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you [were] sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants.
Now behold, I [am] with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."
And Yahweh said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your ancestors and to your family, and I will be with you."
And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I [am]." Then he said, "I [am] the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I myself will also bring you up. And Joseph will place his hand over your eyes."

"When Jacob came to Egypt, your ancestors cried out to Yahweh, so he sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought your ancestors out from Egypt and settled them in this place.
Then Israel came [to] Egypt, and Jacob was a sojourner in the land of Ham.
So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac. And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, and their little ones and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to transport him. And they took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, his sons and his sons' sons with him, his daughters and his daughters' daughters with him, into Egypt.

So Joseph sent [and] summoned his father Jacob and all [his] relatives, seventy-five persons in [all]. And Jacob went down to Egypt and died, he and our fathers.
