as has been written in the book of Isaiah the prophet, saying; The voice of one roaring in the wilderness; Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight His paths. Every valley shall be filled up and every mountain and hill shall be cut down; and the crooked places shall be straight and the rough ways smooth. And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.



In those days comes John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand. This is the one, who is spoken of by Isaiah the prophet saying, The voice of one roaring in the wilderness; Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make straight His paths.

And they departing, Jesus began to speak to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out in the wilderness to see? a reed shaken by the wind? But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold those wearing soft raiment are in the houses of the kings. But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet: read more.
for this is he, concerning whom it has been written, Behold, I send my messenger before my face, who will prepare thy way before thee.
