And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient, by the wisdom of the just, in order to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.

And I knew him not; but he that sent me to immerse in water, said to me, On whom you shall see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is he that immerses in the Holy Spirit. And I saw, and do testify that this is the Son of God.

And Paul said: John immersed with the immersion of repentance, saying to the people, that they must believe on him who should come after him, that is, on the Christ, Jesus.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight; every ravine shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made level; and the crooked ways shall be made straight; and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a girdle of leather around his loins, and he ate locusts and wild honey: and he preached, saying: There comes after me One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I immerse you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit.
