And the passover of the Jews was near; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And he found in the temple those who sold oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the moneychangers sitting. And having made a scourge of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and poured out the money of the exchangers, and overthrew the tables; read more.
and said to those who sold the doves, Take these things hence; make not my Fathers house a house of merchandise. His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for thy house will consume me." The Jews therefore answered and said to him, What sign dost thou show us, seeing thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Fortysix years was this temple in building; and wilt thou raise it up in three days? But he spoke of the temple of his body. When therefore he had risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken. And when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, at the feast, many believed in his name, when they saw his signs which he wrought. But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew all men; and had no need that any one should testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
