And He entered into the ship and passed over, and came to his own city: and behold, they brought to Him one that had the palsy laid on a couch: and Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, Take heart my son, for thy sins are forgiven thee. said to them, Why think ye evil in your hearts? For which is easier? To say, thy sins be forgiven thee? or to say, rise up and walk? but that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, Arise (saith He then to the paralytic) and take up thy couch, and go away to thy house. And he rose up and went away to his own house. But when the multitudes saw it, they were amazed, and glorified God, who had given such power to men. And as Jesus was passing from thence, He saw a man sitting at the custom-house, named Matthew; and He saith to him, Follow me: and he rose up and followed Him. And as He was sitting at table in the house of Matthew, behold, several publicans and notorious sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why doth your master eat with publicans and sinners? But Jesus hearing them, said unto them, They that are in health need not a physician, but they that are ill: go therefore and learn what that means, "I desire mercy rather than sacrifice:" for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance. Then also come to Him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the pharisees fast much, but thy disciples do not fast? And Jesus said unto them, Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast. As no one putteth a piece of new cloth to an old garment; for its new patch teareth away from the old garment, and the rent is made worse: nor do they put new wine into old vessels; otherwise, the casks burst, and the wine is spilt, and the vessels are destroyed: but they put new wine into new vessels, and both are preserved. As He was speaking these things to them, behold there came a ruler and worshipped Him, saying, My daughter is at the point of death: but come, I pray Thee, and put thy hand upon her, and she shall live: and Jesus rose up, and followed him; as did also his disciples. (And lo, a woman who had had a flux of blood for twelve years, came close behind Him, and touched the hem of his garment: for she said within herself, If I can but touch his garment, I shall be cured. And Jesus turning about, and seeing her, said, Daughter be comforted, thy faith hath cured thee. And from that time the woman was healed.) And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the musicians, and the people in confusion; He saith unto them, Retire; for the child is not dead, but asleep. And they laughed at Him. But when the people were put out, He went in and took hold of her hand, and the damsel rose up. And the fame of it spread over all the country.

And when they were come to Capernaum, the receivers of the tribute-money came to Peter and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? Yes, saith he.
And they went into Capernaum: and going directly into the synagogue on the sabbath, He taught the people: and they were astonished at his doctrine; for He taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. And there was in their synagogue a man with an impure spirit, read more.
and he cried out, saying, Let us alone, what have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee, who thou art, the holy one of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent, and come out of him: and the impure spirit threw him into convulsions, and roaring with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all amazed, so that they inquired of each other, saying, What is this, what new kind of doctrine is this? for He commands with authority even the impure spirits, and they obey Him. And straitway his fame spread into all the country round about Galilee. And as soon as they came out of the synagogue, they went into the house of Simon and Andrew, together with James and John. And Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever: and they immediately told Him of her: and He came to her, and taking her by the hand raised her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she waited upon them. And in the evening, when the sun set, they brought to Him all that were ill, and demoniacs: and the whole city was gathered together at the door; and He healed many that were ill of various diseases, and cast out many devils, and suffered not the devils to say that they knew Him. And in the morning, before it was light, He rose up and went out, and retired into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon, and they that were with him, went in quest of Him: and when they found Him, they said to Him, all the people are seeking for thee. And He saith unto them, Let us go into the neighbouring towns, that I may preach there also; for this was the end of my coming. And He went preaching in their synagogues, through all Galilee, and casting out devils. And there came to Him a leper, beseeching Him, and kneeling down to Him, and saying unto Him, If thou wilt, thou canst cleanse me: and Jesus, being moved with compassion, stretched out his hand and touched him, and saith unto Him, I will; be thou healed: and as soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was healed. And he gave him a strict charge, and immediately dismissed him, and saith unto him, See thou tell no man: but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy purification what Moses has commanded, for a testimony to them. But when he was gone he began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the report: so that Jesus could no more go openly into the city, but kept out in country places: and they came to Him from all parts.

And He went another time into a synagogue, where there was a man that had a withered hand: and they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the sabbath-day, that they might accuse Him. And He said to the man, that had the withered hand, Rise up into the midst: read more.
then saith He to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? but they were silent. And when He had looked round upon them with indignation, being grieved at the hardness of their hearts, He saith to the man, Stretch out thine hand: and he stretched it out, and his hand was made as sound as the other. And the pharisees went out, and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how to destroy Him:

Now when He had finished his discourse in the audience of the people, He entered into Capernaum: and a certain centurion's servant, whom he had a great value for, was ill and ready to die; and having heard of Jesus, he sent unto Him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that He would come and heal his servant. read more.
And when they came to Jesus, they intreated Him earnestly, saying, he is worthy of this favor: for he loveth our nation, and hath built us a synagogue. So Jesus went with them. And when He was now not far from the house, the centurion sent some of his friends to Him, saying Lord, trouble not thyself, for I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof: neither did I think myself worthy to come unto thee. But speak the word, and my servant will be recovered. For I also am a man placed under the authority of others, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doth it. And when Jesus heard these things, He marvelled, and turning about, said to the multitude that followed Him, I declare unto you, I have not found so great faith, no not in Israel. And when they that were sent, returned to the house, they found the servant well, that had been sick.

Therefore Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum: who, when he heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, went to Him, and intreated Him, that he would come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe. read more.
The nobleman saith unto Him, Lord, come down before my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go, thy son is well. And the man believed what Jesus said unto him, and went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, Thy son is well. He inquired therefore of them the hour in which he grew better: and they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was in that same hour, in which Jesus said to him, Thy son is well. And he and his whole family believed.

and having entered into a ship were going over the Sea towards Capernaum: and it was now dark, and Jesus was not yet come to them. And the sea rose high by reason of a violent wind. So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and near the ship: and they were affrighted. read more.

Labour not so much for the meat that perisheth, but rather for that food which endureth unto life eternal, which the Son of man will give you: for Him hath God the Father sealed. Therefore said they unto Him, What should we do, that we may work the works approved of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him, whom He hath sent. Therefore said they unto Him, What sign dost thou shew, that we may see it, and believe Thee? What work dost thou do? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert, as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Therefore Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I tell you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which descendeth from heaven, and giveth life to the world. Therefore said they unto Him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. Then Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I have told you, so that ye have seen me, and yet ye do not believe. All that the Father giveth me, will come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will not cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of Him that sent me. And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that of all that He hath given me, I should lose none, but should raise them up at the last day. And this is the will of Him that sent me, that every one who looketh attentively at the Son, and so believeth on Him, may have eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The Jews then murmured about Him; because He said, I am the bread that came down from heaven. And they said to one another, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we knew? How then does He say, I came down from heaven? Jesus therefore said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. No one can come to me, unless the Father, who hath sent me, draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, "And they shall all be taught of God." Every one therefore that hath heard and learned from the Father, cometh unto me. Not that any one hath seen the Father, but He who is from God. He hath seen the Father. Verily, verily, I declare unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead: but this is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that any one may eat thereof and not die. I am the living bread, which came down from heaven: if any one eat of this bread, he shall live for ever. And the bread, that I will give, is my flesh, which I will give up for the life of the world. The Jews therefore cavilled amongst themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then said Jesus unto them, I tell you truly, that unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is truly food, and my blood is truly drink: he that feedeth on my flesh and drinketh my blood, abideth in me and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that feedeth on me he also shall live by me. This is the bread that came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat, and yet are dead. He that eateth this bread shall live for ever. These things He said in the synagogue, when He was teaching in Capernaum. Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard Him, said, This discourse is hard to be understood, who can take it in? But Jesus knowing in Himself, that his disciples were murmuring about it, said unto them, Does this offend you? What then, if ye should see the Son of man ascending up, where He was before? The spirit is the principle of life, the flesh availeth nothing: now the words that I speak unto you are spirit, and therefore life. But there are some of you that believe not: (for Jesus knew from the beginning, who they were that believed not, and who would betray Him: and He said,) therefore I told you, that no one can come unto me except it be given him from my Father.
