And all these kings met together, and came and pitched together upon the water of Merom, for to fight with Israel. And the LORD said unto Joshua, "Be not afraid of them: for tomorrow about this time I will deliver them all slain, before all Israel: and thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire." And Joshua served them as the LORD bade him, houghed their horses and burnt their chariots with fire. Then Joshua at that time turned back and took Hazor and smote her king with the sword. For Hazor, before time, was the head of all those kingdoms. And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, that no breath was let remain. And burnt Hazor with fire, and all the cities of those kings, with all the kings of them, Joshua took and smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded. But Israel burnt none of the cities that stood upon hills, save Hazor only that Joshua burnt: but all the spoil of the said cities and the cattle, the children of Israel caught unto themselves. But the men only they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, and had left no breath remaining. As the LORD commanded Joshua, and even so did Joshua: and diminished no word of all that the LORD commanded Moses. And so Joshua took all the land, the hills and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the low country, and the plains, and the mountain of Israel, with the low country of the same,

And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth judged Israel the same time, and dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel, in mount Ephraim. And the children of Israel came to her for judgment. And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam, out of Kadesh in Naphtali, and said unto him, "The LORD God of Israel commandeth thee, that thou go and draw to mount Tabor and take with thee ten thousand men, of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun. read more.

But Heber the Kenite was removed out of the Kenites, which was of the children of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and pitched his tent until he was come unto the oak of Zaananim, by Kadesh. And then it was showed unto Sisera how that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor. And Sisera called for all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and for all the people that he had, from Harosheth of the gentiles unto the river of Kishon. Then said Deborah unto Barak, "Up, for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hands: for the LORD is gone out before thee." And so Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. But the LORD trounced Sisera and all his chariots and all his host with the edge of the sword, before Barak. And Sisera lighted down off his chariot and fled afoot. But Barak followed after the chariots and after the host, even unto Harosheth of the gentiles. And all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword, that there was not a man left. Howbeit, Sisera fled afoot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor, and the household of Heber the Kenite. And Jael went out against Sisera and said unto him, "Turn in, my lord. Turn in to me and fear not." And he turned in unto her tent: and she covered him with a mantle. And he said unto her, "Give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty." And she opened a bottle of milk and gave him drink and covered him. And he said unto her, "Stand in the door of thy tent, and if any man come and ask thee, or enquire of thee whether there be any man here, say, 'Nay.'" Then Jael, Heber's wife, took a nail of the tent, and a hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail thorough the temples of his head into the ground, as he slumbered being weary: And so he died. And behold, as Barak followed after Sisera, Jael came out against him, and said unto him, "Come and I will show thee the man whom thou seekest." And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail through his temples. And so God brought Jabin the king of Canaan into subjection that day, before the children of Israel. And the hand of the children of Israel prospered and was sore upon Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had brought him to nought.

Neverthelater, they forgot the LORD their God. And he sold them into the hand of Sisera chief captain of Jabin king of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the king of Moab, which fought against them.
