And he travelled in order through the cities and villages, proclaiming and preaching the good news of the kingdom of God; and the twelve were with him,
Luke 8:2 (show verse)
and certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, from whom went out seven demons,
Luke 8:3 (show verse)
and Joanna the wife of Chusa, Herod's steward, and Susannah, and many others, who served them with their property.
Luke 8:4 (show verse)
And a great multitude having come together, and persons having come to him from every city, he said in a parable,
Luke 8:5 (show verse)
A sower went out to sow his seed; and in his sowing, some fell by the way, and was trodden down, and the birds of heaven devoured it;
Luke 8:6 (show verse)
and some fell on the rock, and springing up it was dried up, because it had no moisture;
Luke 8:7 (show verse)
and some fell in the midst of thorns, and the thorns springing up choked it;
Luke 8:8 (show verse)
and some fell on good ground, and growing up bore fruit a hundred fold. Having said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

And his disciples asked him, What does this parable mean?
Luke 8:10 (show verse)
And he said, It is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to others in parables; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
Luke 8:11 (show verse)
But the parable signifies this; the seed is the word of God;
Luke 8:12 (show verse)
those by the way are those who hear, then comes the devil and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved;
Luke 8:13 (show verse)
those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy, and they have no root; they believe for a time, and in a time of trial fall away;
Luke 8:14 (show verse)
and that which fell among thorns signifies those who hear, and going away are choked by cares and riches and the pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

But that on the good ground signifies those who, with a noble and good heart, hearing the word retain it, and bear fruit persistently.
Luke 8:16 (show verse)
But no one lights a candle and covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it in a candlestick, that those coming in may see the light.
Luke 8:17 (show verse)
For there is nothing hid which shall not be manifest, nor concealed which shall not be known and come to light.
Luke 8:18 (show verse)
See therefore how you hear; for whoever has, to him shall be given, and whoever has not, from him shall be taken away even what he seems to have.
Luke 8:19 (show verse)
And his mother and brothers came to him, and were not able to approach him on account of the multitude.
Luke 8:20 (show verse)
And it was told him by some, saying, Your mother and your brothers stand without, wishing to see you.
Luke 8:21 (show verse)
And he answered and said to them, My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and perform it.
Luke 8:22 (show verse)
AND on one of those days both he and his disciples went into the ship; and he said to them, Let us cross over to the other side of the lake. And they set sail;
Luke 8:23 (show verse)
and as they were sailing he fell asleep. And a tempest of wind came down on the lake, and they were flooded with water, and in peril.
Luke 8:24 (show verse)
And they came and awoke him, saying, Master! Master! we are perishing! And he arose, and rebuked the wind and the waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm.
Luke 8:25 (show verse)
And he said to them, Where is your faith? And they were afraid, and wondered, saying one to another, What man then is this, that he commands the winds and the water and they obey him?
Luke 8:26 (show verse)
And they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite to Galilee.
Luke 8:27 (show verse)
And as he went out on the land, there met him a certain man from the city who had had demons for a long time; and he wore no clothes, and remained not in a house, but in the tombs.

And seeing Jesus, he cried out, and worshipped him, and said with a loud voice, What have you to do with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I beg of you not to torment me;
Luke 8:29 (show verse)
for he had commanded the impure spirit to go out of the man; for it had often seized him; and he had been bound with chains, and confined with fetters; and breaking his bonds he had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
Luke 8:30 (show verse)
And Jesus asked him, saying, What is your name? And he said, Legion; because many demons had entered into him.
Luke 8:31 (show verse)
And he besought him not to command them to go into the abyss.
Luke 8:32 (show verse)
And there was a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain, and they besought him to permit them to enter into them; and be permitted them.
Luke 8:33 (show verse)
And the demons going out of the man entered into the swine; and the herd rushed down the precipice into the lake and were drowned.
Luke 8:34 (show verse)
And those who fed them, seeing what was done, fled and reported it in the city and in the country places.
Luke 8:35 (show verse)
And they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting, clothed and of a sound mind, at the feet of Jesus; and they were afraid.

And those who had seen related to them how the demoniac had been cured.
Luke 8:37 (show verse)
And all the multitude of the region about the Gerasenes requested him to depart from them, because they were seized with great fear. And entering into the ship, he returned.
Luke 8:38 (show verse)
And the man from whom the demons had gone out desired to be with him; but he sent him away, saying,
Luke 8:39 (show verse)
Return to your house, and declare how great things God has done for you. And he went away proclaiming in all the city what great things Jesus had done for him.
Luke 8:40 (show verse)
And when Jesus returned the multitude received him; for they were all waiting for him.
Luke 8:41 (show verse)
And behold, a man by the name of Jairus came; and he was the ruler of a synagogue. And falling at the feet of Jesus, he besought him to come to his house,
Luke 8:42 (show verse)
for he had an only daughter twelve years old, and she was dying. And when he was going, the multitudes thronged him.
Luke 8:43 (show verse)
And a woman having a hemorrhage of twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians, and could not be cured by any one,
Luke 8:44 (show verse)
coming up behind, touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her flow of blood was stopped.
Luke 8:45 (show verse)
And Jesus said, Who touched me? And all denying, Peter and those with him said, Master, the multitudes press upon and throng you, and do you say, Who touched me?
Luke 8:46 (show verse)
And Jesus said, Some one touched me; for I perceived a power going from me.
Luke 8:47 (show verse)
And the woman seeing that she was not concealed, came trembling, and falling down related to him in the presence of all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was immediately cured.
Luke 8:48 (show verse)
And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has cured you; go in peace.
Luke 8:49 (show verse)
While he was yet speaking some one came from the synagogue ruler's house and said to him, Your daughter has died; trouble not the teacher.
Luke 8:50 (show verse)
But Jesus hearing it answered him, Fear not; only believe, and she shall be cured.
Luke 8:51 (show verse)
And when he entered into the house, he permitted no one to go in with him, except Peter, and John, and James, and the father and mother of the child.
Luke 8:52 (show verse)
And all wept and lamented her. But he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps.
Luke 8:53 (show verse)
And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.
Luke 8:54 (show verse)
And taking her hand, he called, saying, Child, arise!
Luke 8:55 (show verse)
And her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And he commanded food to be given her.

And her parents were astonished; and he commanded them to tell no one what was done.
