Luke 9:1

And calling the twelve, He gave to them power and authority over all demons, and to heal diseases.

Luke 9:2

And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Luke 9:3

And He said to them, Take nothing for the journey, neither staff, nor valise, nor bread, nor silver; nor to have two coats.

Luke 9:4

And into whatsoever house you may eaten there abide, and go out from thence.

Luke 9:5

And so many as may not receive you, going out from that city, knock off the dust of your feet for a testimony against them.

Luke 9:6

And going out, they continued to go through the villages, everywhere preaching the gospel, and healing.

Luke 9:7

And Herod the tetrarch heard all things which were wrought by Him; and was at a loss, because it was said by some, that John is risen from the dead;

Luke 9:8

and by some that Elijah has appeared; and by others that one of the old prophets is arisen.

Luke 9:9

And Herod said, I beheaded John: but who is this, concerning whom I hear these things? And he was seeking to see Him.

Luke 9:10

And the apostles having returned, expounded unto Him how many things they did. And taking them He departed privately into a desert place, belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

Luke 9:11

And the multitudes having found out, followed Him And receiving them, He spoke to them concerning the kingdom of God, and healed those having need of healing.

Luke 9:12

And the day began to decline; and the twelve coming to Him, said, Send away the multitude, in order that having gone into the surrounding villages and countries, they may lodge, and find food: because we are here in a desert place.

Luke 9:13

And He said to them, You give them to eat. And they said, There is not to us more than five loaves and two fishes; if not having gone we must purchase victuals for all this people.

Luke 9:14

For the men were about five thousand. And He said to His disciples, Have them sit down in companies, about fifty.

Luke 9:15

And they did thus, and made all sit down.

Luke 9:16

And taking the five loaves and two fishes, looking up to heaven, He blessed them; and He broke, and gave to the disciples to dispense to the multitude.

Luke 9:17

And they all ate and were filled: and that which remained to them of the fragments, were taken up, twelve baskets.

Luke 9:18

It came to pass, while He was praying alone, His disciples came to Him. And He asked them, saying, Whom do the multitudes say that I am?

Luke 9:19

They responding said, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, that one of the old prophets is risen.

Luke 9:20

And He said to them, But whom do you say that I am? And Peter responding said, The Christ of God.

Luke 9:21

And having charged them, He commanded them to tell it to no one.

Luke 9:22

Saying, That it behooved the Son of man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be killed, and to rise the third day.

Luke 9:23

And He spoke to all, If any one wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Luke 9:24

For whosoever may wish to save his soul shall lose it; and whosoever may lose his soul for my sake, he shall save it.

Luke 9:25

For what is a man profited, gaining the whole world, and losing or forfeiting himself?

Luke 9:26

For whosoever may be ashamed of me and my words, the Son of man will be ashamed of him, when He may come in His glory, and that of the Father, and that of the holy angels.

Luke 9:27

And truly I say unto you, There are some of those standing here, who may not taste of death, until they may see the kingdom of God.

Luke 9:28

And it came to pass after these discourses, about eight days, and taking Peter and John and James, He went up into the mountain to pray.

Luke 9:29

And it came to pass while He was praying, the appearance of His countenance was changed, and His raiment shining white.

Luke 9:30

And behold two men were talking with Him, who were Moses and Elijah:

Luke 9:31

who being seen in glory, was speaking of His departure which He was about to perfect in Jerusalem.

Luke 9:32

And Peter and those who were along with Him, were burdened with sleep. And having watched through the night, they saw His glory and the two men who were standing with him.

Luke 9:33

It came to pass when they departed from Him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah: not knowing what he says.

Luke 9:34

And he speaking these things there was a cloud, and it overshadowed them; and they were afraid while they were entering into the cloud.

Luke 9:35

And there was a voice from the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear ye Him. And while the voice is heard, Jesus is found alone.

Luke 9:36

And they were silent, and they told no one during those days any of those things which they had seen

Luke 9:37

And it came to pass, on the following day, they having come down from the mountain, a multitude met Him.

Luke 9:38

And behold, a man from the multitude cried out, saying, Teacher, I pray thee look upon my son, because he is to me an only child:

Luke 9:39

and behold, the spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; and he convulses him with foam, and scarcely departs from him, contorting him.

Luke 9:40

And I besought thy disciples, that they should cast him out; and they were not able.

Luke 9:41

And Jesus responding said, O ye faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? Bring your son hither.

Luke 9:42

And he yet coming, the demon dashed him down and convulsed him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the child, and gave him to his father.

Luke 9:43

And all were astonished at the majesty of God.And all being astonished at all things which Jesus did, He said to His disciples,

Luke 9:44

You place these words in your ears: for the Son of man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.

Luke 9:45

And they did not understand this word, and it was hidden from them, in order that they should not understand it: and they were afraid to ask Him concerning this word.

Luke 9:46

And a dispute came in among them, as to which one of them might be the greater.

Luke 9:47

And Jesus seeing the dispute of their heart, taking a little child, He placed it by Himself,

Luke 9:48

and said to them, Whosoever may receive this little child in my name receives me; and whosoever may receive me receives him that sent me. For he who is least among you all, the same shall be great.

Luke 9:49

And John responding said, Master, we saw one casting out the demons in thy name; and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us.

Luke 9:50

And Jesus said to him, Forbid him not; for whosoever is not against us is on our side.

Luke 9:51

And it came to pass while the days of His taking up were being fulfilled, and He turned His face to go to Jerusalem,

Luke 9:52

and He sent messengers before His face. And they going forward, entered into a city of the Samaritans, in order to prepare for Him;

Luke 9:53

and they did not receive Him, because His face was going toward Jerusalem.

Luke 9:54

And the disciples James and John, seeing, said, Lord, do you wish that we may command fire to descend from heaven and consume them?

Luke 9:55

And He turning, rebuked them.

Luke 9:56

And they went into another village.

Luke 9:57

And they going on the way, a certain one said to Him, Lord, I will follow thee wheresoever thou mayest go.

Luke 9:58

And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of heaven nests; but the Son of man has not a place where He may recline His head.

Luke 9:59

And He said to another, Follow thou me. And he said, Lord, permit me first having gone away to bury my father.

Luke 9:60

And Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead; but thou having gone away proclaim the kingdom of God.

Luke 9:61

And another said to Him, Lord, I will follow thee; but first permit me to bid adieu to those at my own home.

Luke 9:62

And Jesus said to him, No one putting his hand to the plow, and looking back, is worthy of the kingdom of God.
