And He went forth thence, and cometh into His own country; and His disciples follow Him.
Mark 6:2 (show verse)
And, when the sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many, hearing Him, were astonished, saying, "Whence hath this Man these things?" And, "What is the wisdom which is given to This Man?" And, "Such mighty works are wrought by His hands!"

"Is not This the Carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us?" And they were finding occasion of stumbling in Him.

And Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own kindred, and in his own house."

And He could there do no mighty work, except that, laying His hands on a few sick people, He healed them.

And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And He was going round about the villages, teaching.

And He calleth to Him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two, and was giving them authority over the unclean spirits;

and He charged them that they should take nothing for the way, except a staff only; no bread, no wallet, no money in their girdle;
Mark 6:9 (show verse)
but to go shod with sandals; and He said, put not on two coats.
Mark 6:10 (show verse)
And He said to them, "Wheresoever ye enter into a house, there abide, till ye depart thence.
Mark 6:11 (show verse)
And whatsoever place does not receive you, and they hear you not, going forth thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony to them."

And, going forth, they preached that men should repent.
Mark 6:13 (show verse)
And they were casting out many demons, and were anointing with oil many sick people, and were healing them.

And the king Herod heard of Him, (for His name became famous), and he said, "John the Immerser has risen from the dead; and, because of this, the powers are working in Him."

But others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is a prophet, or as one of the prophets."
Mark 6:16 (show verse)
But Herod, hearing of Him, said, "It is he whom I beheaded, John, the same was raised."
Mark 6:17 (show verse)
For Herod himself, sending forth, laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison, for the sake of Herodias the wife of Philip, his brother, because he married her.

For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."
Mark 6:19 (show verse)
And Herodias was holding it against him, and was wishing to kill him; and she could not;
Mark 6:20 (show verse)
for Herod was fearing John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he was preserving him.

And, an opportune day having come, when Herod, on his birthday, made a supper for his nobles and for the chief captains, and the chief men of Galilee;
Mark 6:22 (show verse)
and the daughter of Herodias herself coming in and dancing, it pleased Herod and those reclining at table with him; and the king said to the damsel, "Ask of me whatsoever you wish, and I will give it to you."

And he swore to her, "Whatsoever you ask of me, I will give it to you, unto half of my kingdom."
Mark 6:24 (show verse)
And, having gone out, she said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Immerser."
Mark 6:25 (show verse)
And, coming in straight-way, in haste, to the king, she asked, saying, "I wish that you would, forthwith, give me on a dish, the head of John the Immerser."

And, though becoming very sorrowful, the king, because of his oaths, and those reclining with him, would not thwart her.
Mark 6:27 (show verse)
And the king, straightway sending off one of his guard, gave orders to bring his head; and, departing, he beheaded him in the prison,

and brought his head on a dish, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.

And, having heard of it, his disciples came and took up his corpse, and placed it in a tomb.

And the apostles gather themselves together to Jesus; and they reported to Him all things, whatsoever they did, and whatsoever they taught.

And He saith to them, "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest yourselves a little." For there were many coming and going, and they were not finding opportunity even to eat.

And they went away in the boat to a desert place apart.
Mark 6:33 (show verse)
And the people saw them going on their way, and many knew them, and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them.
Mark 6:34 (show verse)
And, coming forth, He saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.

And, the hour being already late, His disciples, coming to Him, said, "The place is desert, and the hour is already late;
Mark 6:36 (show verse)
send them away, that, having gone into the surrounding fields and villages, they may buy themselves something to eat."
Mark 6:37 (show verse)
But He saith to them, "Give ye them to eat." And they said to Him, "Going, shall we buy two hundred denaries worth of loaves, and give them to eat?"
Mark 6:38 (show verse)
But He saith to them, "How many loaves have ye? go and see." And, having ascertained, they say, "Five, and two fishes."
Mark 6:39 (show verse)
And He commanded that all should recline by companies on the grass.
Mark 6:40 (show verse)
And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and fifties.
Mark 6:41 (show verse)
And, taking the five loaves and two fishes, looking up to Heaven, He blessed, and broke up the loaves, and kept giving to the disciples to set before them; and He divided the two fishes among them all.

And they all ate, and were satisfied.
Mark 6:43 (show verse)
And they took up broken pieces, twelve basketfuls, and from the fishes.
Mark 6:44 (show verse)
And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
Mark 6:45 (show verse)
And straightway He constrained His disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He Himself sendeth the multitude away.

And, having taken leave of them, He went away into the mountain to pray.

And, when it was evening, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and He was alone on the land.

And, seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night He cometh to them, walking on the sea; and He wished to pass by them;

but, seeing Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and they cried out;
Mark 6:50 (show verse)
for they all saw Him; and were troubled. But he straight-way talked with them, and saith to them, "Be of good courage! it is I, be not afraid."

And He went up to them into the boat; and the wind ceased; and they were exceedingly amazed in themselves:

for they did not understand concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened.
Mark 6:53 (show verse)
And, crossing over, they came upon the land to Gennesaret, and anchored there.
Mark 6:54 (show verse)
And, when they came out of the boat, straightway recognizing Him,
Mark 6:55 (show verse)
they ran about that whole country, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick, where they were hearing that He was.
Mark 6:56 (show verse)
And wheresoever He was entering into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they placed the sick in the marketplaces, and were beseeching Him, that they might touch even the border of His garment; and as many as touched were healed.
