And He spake a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not room to lay up my corn. And he said, This I will do: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will bestow all my products and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night shall thy soul be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? These twelve did Jesus send forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not among the gentiles, neither enter into any city of the Samaritans: but go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand: and in confirmation of your doctrine heal the sick, read more.
cleanse the leprous, raise the dead, cast out demons; and as ye have received freely, freely give. Take not gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses: take no bag for your journey, nor two coats, nor shoes, nor weapons; for the laborer is worthy of his food. And into whatsoever city or town ye enter, inquire who in it is a worthy person, and there remain till ye leave the place. And when ye come into the house, salute them: and if the family be worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if they be not worthy, your salutation shall return to you. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hearken to your words; when ye come out of that house or city, shake off the very dust of your feet: for I tell you verily, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha, in the day of judgement, than for that city. Behold I send you forth as sheep into the midst of wolves: be ye therefore prudent as serpents, and innocent as doves. Beware of evil men; for they will deliver you up to their councils, and will scourge you in their synagogues. If then they call the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more his domestics? Be not therefore afraid of them; for there is nothing hid, that shall not be revealed; nor secret, that shall not be made known. What I say to you in private, declare ye in public: and what ye hear as in the ear, preach ye as from the house-tops. And be not afraid of them, who can only kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him, who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and not one of them shall fall to the ground without the will of your Father: and even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore be not afraid, ye are of more worth than many sparrows. Whosoever then shall own me before men, I also will own him before my Father, who is in heaven: but whosoever shall disown me before men, him will I also disown before my Father who is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to bring peace but division. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law: and those of a man's own family shall be his enemies. He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that would save his life shall lose it; and he, that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it. He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth Him that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet as a prophet, shall have a prophet's reward: and he that receiveth a righteous man as such, shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whosoever shall give to one of these mean persons but a cup of cold water to drink, as my disciple, I assure you, he shall not lose his reward.

And whosoever will not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Carry neither purse, nor bag, nor shoes; and salute no one by the way. But whatever house ye come into, first say, Peace be to this house: and if there be a child of peace there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall return upon yourselves. But remain in the same house, eating and drinking such as they have; for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you; and heal those in it that are sick, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come unto you. But into whatever city ye come, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of it and say, even the dust that cleaveth to us out of your city we wipe off against you: but know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. And I tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day even for Sodom than for that city. Wo unto thee, Chorazin, wo unto thee, Bethsaida, for if the miracles wrought among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgement than for you. And thou Capernaum, which art exalted even to heaven, shalt be cast down to hell. ---He, that heareth you, heareth me; and he, that rejecteth you, rejecteth me; and he, that rejecteth me, rejecteth Him that sent me.

This charge I commit to thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which before came on thee, that by them thou mightest war a good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some putting away have made shipwreck concerning the faith: of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

Do not chide a senior, but exhort him as a father; and younger men as brethren: the elder women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity. Honour widows who are widows indeed. read more.
But if any widow have children or grandchildren, let these learn first to shew piety at home, and to make suitable returns to their parents: for this is becoming, and acceptable in the sight of God. Now she, that is really a widow and desolate, hopeth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. But she that indulgeth to luxury, is dead while she liveth. These things give in charge, that they may be blameless. But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own family, he hath renounced the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Let not a widow be chosen into the number under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man: in repute for good actions, if she have educated children, if she have entertained strangers, if she have washed the feet of saints, if she have relieved the afflicted, and diligently followed every good work. But the younger widows refuse: for when they grow wanton against Christ, they will needs marry: and are therefore to be condemned, because they violate their first faith. And withal being idle they learn to go about from house to house: and are not only idle, but tatlers also and busy-bodies, talking of things unbecoming them. I would therefore have the younger widows marry, bear children, manage houshold affairs, and give no occasion to the adversary for reproach. For some are already turned aside after Satan. And if any believer have relations widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be burdened; that it may relieve those that are indeed widows and desolate. Let the elders, who preside well, be counted worthy of double honor, especially those that labour in preaching and teaching. For the scripture saith, "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn:" and, "The workman is worthy of his hire." Receive not an accusation against an elder, unless from two or three witnesses. Those that offend reprove before all, that others also may fear. I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou keep to these things without preference of persons, doing nothing with partiality. Lay hands on no man precipitately, and be not hereby a partaker in the sins of others. Keep thyself pure.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman: every branch in me that beareth not fruit He taketh away, and every one that beareth fruit, He purgeth, that it may bear more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. read more.

If any one abide not in me, he is cast out as a useless branch and withereth: and they gather them up, and throw them into the fire, and they are burnt. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask what ye will, and it shall be granted you. Herein is my father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, and I have loved you, continue in my love: and if ye keep my commandments ye will continue in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and continue in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy in you may continue, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends: and ye are my friends, if ye do what I command you. I no longer stile you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth: but I have called you friends; for whatsoever I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you. Ye did not first choose me, but I chose you, and have appointed you to go forth, and bear fruit, and that your fruit should be lasting: that whatsoever ye ask the Father in my name, He may give it you. These commands I give you, that ye should love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me first. If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up his eyes to heaven and said,--- "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify Thee: as Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that as to all which Thou hast given Him, He might give them eternal life; and this is life eternal, to know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. read more.

They now know that all things whatsoever Thou hast given me, are indeed from Thee; for the instructions, which Thou gavest me, I have given to them: and they have received them, and have known of a truth that I came from Thee, and have believed that thou hast sent me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for those whom Thou hast given me, for they are thine. And all my concerns are thine, and thine are mine: and I am therefore glorified in them. And as I am to be no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to Thee, Holy Father, keep by thy name those whom Thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; I have preserved those whom Thou gavest me, and none of them is lost; except the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to Thee, and I speak these things in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in them. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

for this is the injunction which ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another: not as Cain who was of the evil one, and slew his brother; and why did he slay him? because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Wonder not then, my brethren, if the world hate you:

And He said, Take heed that ye be not deceived; for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and the time is near: but do not therefore go after them. And when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these must first happen; but the end will not be directly. Then said He unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes in several places, and famines, and pestilences, and fearful sights and great prodigies from heaven. But before all these things they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues, and prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake: but it shall be for a testimony to you. Fix it therefore in your hearts not to premeditate a defence: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict nor withstand. But ye shall be betrayed even by parents, and brethren, and kindred and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death: and ye will be hated by all men for my sake. But not an hair of your head shall perish. In your patience therefore possess your souls.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman: every branch in me that beareth not fruit He taketh away, and every one that beareth fruit, He purgeth, that it may bear more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. read more.
Abide therefore in me, and I will abide in you: for as the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, unless it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, beareth much fruit: but without me ye can do nothing. Remember what I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my word, they will also observe yours.

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye may not be offended: for they will excommunicate you: yea, the time is coming, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he offers an acceptable service to God. And these things will they do unto you; because they have not known the Father, nor me. read more.
But I have told you these things, that when the time cometh, ye may remember that I told you of them. Though I did not tell you of them at the beginning, because I was with you.

Behold I send you forth as sheep into the midst of wolves: be ye therefore prudent as serpents, and innocent as doves. Beware of evil men; for they will deliver you up to their councils, and will scourge you in their synagogues. And ye shall be brought before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony to them and to the nations: read more.
but when they take you up, be not sollicitous how, or what ye shall say; for ye shall be taught in that very instant what ye shall speak: for it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh by you. Brother shall betray his brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death: and ye shall be hated by all men for professing my name; but he that perseveres to the end shall certainly be saved.

And as Jesus went out, and was departing from the temple, his disciples came to observe to Him the magnificent buildings. But Jesus said unto them, Do ye see all these things? Verily I tell you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be demolished. And when He was got to the mount of olives, the disciples came to Him in private and said, Tell us when these things shall be, and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world. read more.
And Jesus answered them, See that no one deceive you: for many shall come in my name saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, but be not troubled; for all these must indeed come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in several places: all which are but the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name:

And as He was going out of the temple, one of his disciples saith to Him, Master, behold what fine stones are here, and what stately buildings! And Jesus answering said unto him, Thou seest these grand buildings: but there shall not be left one stone upon another, which shall not be thrown down. And as He was sitting on the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately, read more.

But Jesus answered them and said, Beware least any one deceive you: for many shall come in my name saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and famines and troubles: these will be the beginnings of sorrows. But look to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils, and synagogues: and ye shall be scourged, and set before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published to all nations. But when they shall lead you to deliver you up, be not anxiously careful beforehand what ye shall speak, neither premeditate: but whatever shall be suggested to you at that very time, this speak: for it is not you that speak, but the holy Spirit. One brother shall betray another to death, and the father the son: and children shall appear against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated by all men for my sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved.

When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up his eyes to heaven and said,--- "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify Thee: as Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that as to all which Thou hast given Him, He might give them eternal life; and this is life eternal, to know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. read more.
I have glorified Thee on earth, I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do: and now, O Father, glorify Thou me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was made. I have manifested thy name to the men, whom Thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and Thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word.
