And the LORD said unto Moses, "Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for grasshoppers; that they come upon the land of Egypt and eat all the herbs of the land, and all that the hail left untouched." And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land, all that day and all night. And in the morning the east wind brought the grasshoppers, and the grasshoppers went up over all the land of Egypt and lighted in all quarters of Egypt very grievously: so that before them were there no such grasshoppers, neither after them shall be. And they covered all the face of the earth, so that the land was dark therewith. And they ate all the herbs of the land and all the fruits of the trees which the hail had left: so that there was no green thing left in the trees and herbs of the field through all the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and said, "I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you. Forgive me yet my sin only this once, and pray unto the LORD your God that he may take away from me this death only." And he went out from Pharaoh and prayed unto the LORD, and the LORD turned the wind into a mighty strong west wind, and it took away the grasshoppers and cast them into the reed sea: so that there was not one grasshopper left in all the coasts of Egypt. But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.
