Then John's disciples came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?"
Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Messiah, he sent [a message] by his disciples
Then his disciples came, and took the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.
And John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him, "Why do the disciples of John and those of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?"
They said to him, "The disciples of John often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink."
Now a dispute arose between John's disciples with a Jew about purification.

But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod. Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask. And she, being prompted by her mother, said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist." And the king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given, and he sent and beheaded John in the prison. And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the young lady: and she brought it to her mother. Then his disciples came, and took the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and suddenly the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove on him; and a voice came out of the sky, saying "You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased."
And John testified, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him. And I did not recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, this is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' And I have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One of God."
Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting, and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
