Then the Jews, as it was the preparation, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for that sabbath day was a great day, besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken down. Then came the soldiers and broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him.
