And he told them a parable, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; read more.
but the wise took oil in their flasks with their lamps. While the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry: 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise replied, 'No, there may not be enough for both us and you; go rather to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us!' But he replied, 'Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' Therefore keep watch, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Jesus Christ » Parables of » The sower
Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on rocky places, where they did not have much soil, and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of soil. read more.
But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. But other seed fell on good soil and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear."
But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. But other seed fell on good soil and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear."
"A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. read more.

"Hear then the parable of the sower: when anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. But he who received the seed on rocky places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; read more.
yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. And when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But the one who received seed on the good soil is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

Again he began to teach by the sea. and a very large crowd gathered around him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. Then he taught them many things by parables, and said to them in his teaching: "Listen! A sower went out to sow. read more.
And as he sowed the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil. The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in them. And these likewise are the ones sown on rocky ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; read more.

"Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. Jesus Christ » Parables of » The mustard seed
Another parable he put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches."
Then he said, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches."
And he said, "With what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is the smallest of all seeds in the earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade."

Then he began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a place for the wine vat and built a tower. Again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully. And he sent another, and him they killed; and so with many others, some they beat and some they killed. He still had one left to send, a beloved son. He sent him to them last, saying, 'They will respect my son.' But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' So they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others. Have you not read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?" And they sought to arrest him, but feared the multitude, for they knew he had spoken the parable against them. So they left him and went away.

"Hear another parable: there was a landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vine dressers and went into a far country. When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit. And the tenants took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. read more.
Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did the same to them. Last of all, he sent his son to them saying, 'They will respect my son,' But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.' So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons." Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? "Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. He sent a third; and they wounded him and cast him out. Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.' But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves and said, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.' So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "May this never be!" But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'? And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it was well built. But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great."

So he told them this parable: "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. read more.

What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, the man who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs in by some other way, he is a thief and a robber.
