When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you: And put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his delicacies: for they are deceitful food.

Put not forth yourself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: For better it is that it be said unto you, Come up here; than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom your eyes have seen.

If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and you be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience's sake.

Eat not the bread of him that is stingy, neither desire you his delicacies: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, says he to you; but his heart is not with you. The morsel which you have eaten shall you vomit up, and waste your sweet words.

Withdraw your foot from your neighbor's house; lest he be weary of you, and so hate you.

And into whatsoever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
