Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure:


I am wearied with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I dissolve my couch with my tears.

My harp also is turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of weepers.

For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,

My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

Hear my prayer, Jehovah, and give ear unto my cry; be not silent at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, a sojourner, like all my fathers.

My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God?







{A Psalm of David; when he was in the wilderness of Judah.} O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee. My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh languisheth for thee, in a dry and weary land without water:

I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul, as a parched land, thirsteth after thee. Selah.

Behold, days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah. And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst;

{To the chief Musician. An instruction; of the sons of Korah.} As the hart panteth after the water-brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God? read more.
These things I remember and have poured out my soul within me: how I passed along with the multitude, how I went on with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a festive multitude.

but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for ever, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life. The woman says to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst nor come here to draw.
