So write the things which you saw, and the things which are, and the things that will come to pass hereafter.

Vision » Of john on the island of patmos » Of Christ and the golden lampstands
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard a loud voice behind me, like a trumpet, saying, "Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches; to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamos and to Thyatira and Sardis and Philadelphia and Laodicea." And I turned to see the Voice which was speaking to me, and as I turned I saw seven golden candlesticks; read more.
and in the midst of the candlesticks One like to a son of man, clothed with a robe down to the feet, and with a golden girdle round his breast. His head and his hair were as white as wool, as white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, and his feet like burnished brass, as if molten in a furnace; and his voice like the voice of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars; and out of mouth went a sharp, two-edged sword, and his face was as the sun shining in his strength. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as one dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying. "Fear not; I am the first and the last, and the Living One. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore; and hold the keys of death and of Hades. So write the things which you saw, and the things which are, and the things that will come to pass hereafter. The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks, is this. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven candlesticks are the seven churches."
