So the priest gave him the consecrated bread; for there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence which was removed from before the Lord in order to put hot bread in its place when it was taken away.

He said to them, Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, and those who accompanied him -- " How he went into the house of God and ate the loaves of the showbread -- "which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for the men who accompanied him, but for the priests only?

And He said to them, Have you never [even] read what David did when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were accompanying him? -- " How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was the high priest, and ate the sacred loaves set forth [before God], which it is not permitted or lawful for any but the priests to eat, and [how he] also gave [them] to those who were with him?

And Jesus replied to them, saying, Have you never so much as read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him? -- " How he went into the house of God and took and ate the [sacred] loaves of the showbread, which it is not permitted for any except only the priests to eat, and also gave to those [who were] with him?


Over the table of the bread of the Presence they shall spread a cloth of blue and put on it the plates, the dishes [for incense], the sacrificial bowls, the jars for the drink offering, and the continual bread [of the Presence] shall be on it.

He made the utensils which were to be on the table, its dishes and its pans [for bread], its bowls and its jars for pouring drink offerings, of pure gold.

And you shall make its plates [for showbread] and cups [for incense], and its flagons and bowls [for liquids in sacrifice]; make them of pure gold. And you shall set the showbread (the bread of the Presence) on the table before Me always.


Solomon made all the [other] furniture which was in the house of the Lord: the [incense] altar of gold; the table of gold on which was the bread of the Presence;

the cups, snuffers, bowls, spoons, firepans—of pure gold; and the hinges of gold [both] for the doors of the inner house, the Holy of Holies, and for the doors of the house, the main room [the Holy Place].

and the snuffers, the basins, the dishes [for incense], and the firepans, of pure gold; and for the entrance of the house (temple), the inner doors for the Holy of Holies and the doors of the Holy Place (main room), were of gold.


Also, make a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, one cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high [for the showbread]. You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a crown, a rim or molding, of gold around the top of it; And make a frame of a handbreadth around and below the top of it and put around it a gold molding as a border. read more.
You shall make for it four rings of gold and fasten them at the four corners that are on the table's four legs. Close against the frame shall the rings be as places for the poles to pass to carry the table [of showbread]. You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried with them.

Bezalel made the [showbread] table of acacia wood; it was two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high. He overlaid it with pure gold and made a molding of gold around its top. And he made a border around it [just under the top] a handbreadth wide, and a molding of gold around the border. read more.

Observe, I am about to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God, dedicated to Him, to burn fragrant incense [of sweet spices] before Him, to set out the showbread continually, and to offer burnt offerings morning and evening, on Sabbaths, New Moons, and on the festivals of the Lord our God, as ordained forever in Israel.


You shall set the table [for the bread] outside the veil [in the Holy Place] on the north side, and the lampstand opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle.

Some of their Kohathite relatives were in charge of the showbread to prepare it every Sabbath.

and with the showbread, and the fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or what is baked in the pan or what is well-mixed, and all measures of volume and size [as the Law of Moses required].


And you shall anoint the Tent of Meeting with it, and the ark of the Testimony, And the [showbread] table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense,

You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them must be holy (set apart for God).


Moses put the table [of showbread] in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the veil; He set the bread [of the Presence] in order on it before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded him.


Also we pledge ourselves to pay yearly a third of a shekel for the service expenses of the house of our God [which are]: For the showbread; for the continual cereal offerings and burnt offerings; [for the offerings on] the Sabbaths, the New Moons, the set feasts; for the holy things, for the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel; and for all the work of the house of our God.


And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake [of the showbread or bread of the Presence]. And you shall set them in two rows, six in a row, upon the table of pure gold before the Lord. You shall put pure frankincense [in a bowl or spoon] beside each row, that it may be with the bread as a memorial portion, an offering to be made by fire to the Lord. read more.
Every Sabbath day Aaron shall set the showbread in order before the Lord continually; it is on behalf of the Israelites, an everlasting covenant. And the bread shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a sacred place, for it is for [Aaron] a most holy portion of the offerings to the Lord made by fire, a perpetual due [to the high priest].


When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all its furniture, as the camp sets out, after all that [is done, but not before], the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them [using the poles], so that they do not touch the holy things, and die. These are the things in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle) which the sons of Kohath are to carry.
