THEN calling his twelve disciples, he gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
They then accordingly assembling together, asked him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time reestablish the kingdom of Israel? But he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times and the seasons, which the Father hath reserved under his own authority. But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses for me, both in Jerusalem, and throughout all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the extremity of the earth.
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject to us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan falling as lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shalt in any wise hurt you. read more.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it. A man was sent from God, whose name was John. He came for a witness, that he might bear testimony concerning the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not the Light, but sent that he should bear testimony concerning the Light. He was that true Light, which illumines every man by his coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his peculiar people, and his peculiar people did not receive him. But as many as did receive him, on them he bestowed authority to become children of God, even on those who believe on his name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
