And the disciples came and said to him: "Why dost thou speak to them in parables? He answered, and said to them: Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven; but to them it is not given.
And when he was alone, those who were about him, with the twelve, asked him the meaning of the parable. And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are without, all things are done in parables;
And the disciples asked him, saying: What does this parable mean? He replied: To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that when they see, they may not see, and when they hear, they may not understand.
Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash his disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded. Then he came to Simon Peter; and Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said to him: What I am doing you know not now, but you will know here after. read more.
Peter said to him: Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him: Unless I wash you, you have no part with me. Simon Peter said to him: Lord, not my feet only, but my hands and my head.
