And this is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light and there [is] no darkness in him at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
Every word of God [is] flawless; he [is] a shield for him who takes refuge in him. Do not add to his words lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.
A faithful witness does not lie, but he who breathes out falsehood is a witness of deceit.
Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I have come forth from God and have come. For I have not come from myself, but that one sent me. {Why} do you not understand my way of speaking? Because you are not able to listen to my message. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father! That one was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth, because truth is not in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from his own [nature], because he is a liar and the father {of lies}.
My little children, I am writing these [things] to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous [one], and he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. read more.

Rather, your iniquities have been {barriers} between you and your God, and your sins have hidden [his] face from you, from hearing.
