They served him by himself, his brothers by themselves, and the Egyptians who were eating with him by themselves, because Egyptians could not eat with Hebrews, since that is abhorrent to them.
But Moses said, "It would not be right to do that, because what we will sacrifice to the Lord our God is detestable to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice what the Egyptians detest in front of them, won't they stone us?
"When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations.
You must burn up the carved images of their gods. Don't covet the silver and gold on the images and take it for yourself, or else you will be ensnared by it, for it is abhorrent to the Lord your God.
You must not do the same to the Lord your God, because they practice for their gods every detestable thing the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
Everyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable things.
For everyone who does such things and acts unfairly is detestable to the Lord your God.
Six things the Lord hates; in fact, seven are detestable to Him:
Lying lips are detestable to the Lord, but faithful people are His delight.
The sacrifice of a wicked person is detestable- how much more so when he brings it with ulterior motives!
And He told them: "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly admired by people is revolting in God's sight.
