And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. And Zachariah was troubled at the sight, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him: Fear not, Zachariah; for your prayer is heard, and your wife Elizabeth shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.

And you shall have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great before the Lord; and he shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb. And many of the sons of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.read more.
And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient, by the wisdom of the just, in order to make ready for the Lord a prepared people. And Zachariah said to the angel: By what sign shall I know this? for I am old, and my wife is advanced in years. And the angel answered and said to him: I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God; and I am sent to speak to you, and to announce to you this good news.

But while he was thinking of these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take home Mary your wife; for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus; for he will save his people from their sins.

And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin be trothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary. And the angel came into her presence, and said: Hail, graciously accepted: the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.read more.
And she was perplexed at his words, and reasoned, what this salutation could mean. And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. But Mary said to the angel: How shall this be, since I know not a man? And the angel answered and said to her: The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for which reason, also, that which is begotten, being holy, shall be called the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth your kinswoman, even she has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren; for nothing shall be impossible with God. And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her.

And there were in the same country shepherds, living in the open field, and guarding their flock by night. And, behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were greatly afraid. And the angel said to them: Be not afraid; for, behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which shall be for all people.read more.
For there is born for you this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be to you the sign: you will find the babe wrapped in swathing-clothes, and lying in a stable. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will among men.read more.

But the angel answered and said to the women: Fear not; for I know that you seek Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples, that he has risen from the dead: and behold, he goes before you into Galilee. There you shall see him. Lo, I have told you.

And they entered the sepulcher, and saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe: and they were frightened. But he said to them: Be not frightened; you seek Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here: see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples, and Peter, that he goes before you into Galilee; there you shall see him, as he told you.

And it came to pass, while they were much perplexed at this, behold, two men stood by them in shining raiment. And while they feared and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them: Why seek you among the dead for him that lives? He is not here, but he has risen; remember that he spoke to you while he was yet in Galilee,read more.
saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Then the disciples went away again by them selves. But Mary stood without near the tomb, weeping; and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb, and saw two angels in white raiment, sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the foot, where the body of Jesus had lain.read more.
And they said to her: Woman, why do you weep? She said to them: They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. Having said this, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

And while they were looking earnestly to ward heaven, as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white raiment, who also said: Men of Galilee, why stand you gazing up into heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, shall come in the same manner in which you saw him go into heaven.

Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, named Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, who did many acts of charity to the people, and prayed to God always.
