Now in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. He had written in the letter, saying, "Place Uriah in the front line of the fiercest battle and withdraw from him, so that he may be struck down and die." The men of the city went out and fought against Joab, and some of the people among David's servants fell; and Uriah the Hittite also died.
Now a certain man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn around and take me out of the fight; for I am severely wounded."
The archers shot King Josiah, and the king said to his servants, "Take me away, for I am badly wounded."
