He may give him forty stripes. He shall not exceed, lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem debased to thee.

And having laid many blows upon them, they cast them into prison, having ordered the jailor to guard them securely, who, having received such an order, threw them into the inner prison, and fastened their feet in the stocks.
