The LORD is nigh to them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
