They were women of the family of the sons of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.
And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, If a man dies and has no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. Ye shall be witnesses of this today. And all the people that were in the gate and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thy house like Rachel and like Leah, who built the house of Israel; and be thou a man of valour in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem; let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bore unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

And the sons of Pharez: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites. These are the families of Judah according to those numbered, seventy-six thousand five hundred. The sons of Issachar by their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Pua, the family of the Punites; of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites. These are the families of Issachar according to those numbered, sixty-four thousand three hundred. The sons of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Sardites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites. These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those numbered, sixty thousand five hundred. The sons of Joseph by their families: Manasseh and Ephraim. The sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites; and Machir begat Gilead; of Gilead comes the family of the Gileadites. These are the sons of Gilead: of Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helekites; of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites; of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the family of the Hepherites. And Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, had no sons, but daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. These are the families of Manasseh, and those numbered of them, fifty-two thousand seven hundred. These are the sons of Ephraim by their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthalhites; of Becher, the family of the Bachrites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites. And these are the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites. These are the families of the sons of Ephraim according to those numbered, thirty-two thousand five hundred. These are the sons of Joseph by their families. The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites; of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites. And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites; and of Naaman, the family of the Naamites. These are the sons of Benjamin by their families: and those numbered were forty-five thousand six hundred. These are the sons of Dan by their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan by their families. All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those numbered, were sixty-four thousand four hundred. The sons of Asher after their families: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites; of Jesui, the family of the Jesuites; of Beriah, the family of the Beriites. Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites. And the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah. These are the families of the sons of Asher according to those numbered; fifty-three thousand four hundred. Of the sons of Naphtali by their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites; of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites. These are the families of Naphtali by their families; and those numbered were forty-five thousand four hundred. These are the numbered of the sons of Israel, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty. And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, Unto these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. To those that are many thou shalt give more inheritance, and to those that are few thou shalt give less inheritance; to each one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him. Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot; according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. According to the lot shall the inheritance be divided between those that are many and those that are few. And these are those that were numbered of the Levites by their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram. And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore unto Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam, their sister. And unto Aaron was born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before the LORD.
And Moses gave unto the tribe of the sons of Reuben according to their families, and their border was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river and all the plain until Medeba, Heshbon and all her cities that are in the plain, Dibon, and Bamothbaal and Bethbaalmeon,read more.
and Jahazah and Kedemoth and Mephaath, and Kirjathaim and Sibmah and Zarethshahar in the mount of the valley, and Bethpeor and Ashdothpisgah and Bethjeshimoth, and all the cities of the plain and all the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur and Hur and Reba, who were princes of Sihon, dwelling in the country. Balaam also, the son of Beor, the diviner, did the sons of Israel slay with the sword among those that were slain by them. And the border of the sons of Reuben was the Jordan and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the sons of Reuben according to their families, these cities with their villages. Moses likewise gave unto the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad according to their families. And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead and half of the land of the sons of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah, and from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim, and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir, and the valley of Betharam and Bethnimrah and Succoth and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side of the Jordan eastward. This is the inheritance of the sons of Gad according to their families, these cities with their villages. And Moses also gave unto the half tribe of Manasseh, and it belonged to the half tribe of the sons of Manasseh according to their families. Their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities. And half of Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were given to the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, even to one half of the sons of Machir, according to their families. This is what Moses distributed in inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan of Jericho, eastward. But to the tribe of Levi Moses did not give any inheritance; the LORD God of Israel is their inheritance, as he said unto them.
This then was the lot of the tribe of the sons of Judah by their families: next to the border of Edom, of the wilderness of Zin towards the Negev on the south side. Then this border goes up to the top of the mountain that is before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward; and this border comes around from the top of the mountain unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah and goes out to the cities of Mount Ephron; and the border goes around to Baalah, which is Kirjathjearim. After this, the border turns from Baalah westward unto Mount Seir and passes to the side of Mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and descends to Bethshemesh and passes on to Timnah. Then this border goes out to the side of Ekron northward; and the same border comes around to Shicron and passes by Mount Baalah and goes out to Jabneel; and this border comes out to the sea. And the west border is the great sea. This is the border of the sons of Judah round about according to their families. And unto Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, he gave a part among the sons of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba, the father of Anak, which city is Hebron. And Caleb drove from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak. From there he went up to the inhabitants of Debir, and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher. And Caleb said, He that smites Kirjathsepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. And it came to pass when he was taking her, he persuaded her to ask of her father for land to cultivate. Then she lighted off her ass, and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou? And she answered, Give me a blessing, for thou hast given me a dry land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands, each one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
And Canaan begat Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth and Jebusite and Amorite and Girgasite and Hivite and Arkite and Siniteread more.

duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these were the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is the Esau, the father of Edom.
