in order that we may be no longer infants, tossed by the waves and carried about by every wind of teaching, in the caprice of the people, in their craftiness, pursuant to their method of delusion;

And they immediately passed the verdict that they would take Jesus by stratagem, and kill Him.

And He knowing their rascality, said to them, Why tempt ye me?

And they send to Him certain ones of the Pharisees and Herodians, that they may catch Him with speech.

Then the Pharisees going forth, took counsel how they might ensnare Him in His speech. And they send to Him their own disciples along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and that thou art teaching the way of God in truth, and there is not a care to thee for any one; for thou dost not look into the face of men. Then tell us, what seems good to thee? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

Truly the Son of man goes, as has been written concerning Him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It was good for him if that man had never been born. And the chief priests and scribes sought to lay hands on Him at this hour, and feared the people; for they knew that He spoke this parable against them. And laying in wait for Him, they sent sharpers, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might catch his word, in order to turn Him over to the government and authority of the proconsul. is it lawful for us give tribute to Caesar, or not? And He knowing their rascality, said to them, Why tempt ye me? Show me the denarion. Whose image and superscription has it? And they responding said, Caesar's. And He said to them, Therefore render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things which are God's. And they were not able to criticise His word before the people: and being astonished at His answer, they were silent.

Let no one deceive himself. If any one seems to be wise among you in this age, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it has been written. He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Therefore having this ministry, as we have obtained mercy, we faint not; but we lay aside the hidden things of disgrace, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but in the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every conscience of men, before God.
