We ought always to be thanking God for you, brothers dearly loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through the Spirit's consecration of you and through your faith in the truth,

Has not the potter the right with his clay to make of the same lump one vessel for ornamental purposes, another for degrading service? And what if God, though wishing to display His anger and make known His power, yet, has most patiently borne with the objects of His anger, already ripe for destruction, so as to make known the riches of His glory for the objects of His mercy, whom He prepared in ages past to share His glory -- even us whom He has called, not only from among the Jews but from among the heathen too?

I say then, God has not disowned His people, has He? Of course not! Why, I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. What are we then to say to facts like these? If God is for us, who can be against us? For if you cultivate these qualities, you will never slip, for it is in this way that to you will be generously granted a triumphant admittance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

For this reason I am bearing anything for the sake of His chosen people, so that they too may obtain the salvation that comes through Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.
